Summary

ABN Signal works exclusively from publicly available ABN record data published by the Australian Business Register, reading and comparing it as an independent, unaffiliated product.

Source overview

ABN Signal works from publicly available data published by the Australian Business Register. Each record in this dataset includes fields like entity name, ABN status, GST status, entity type, registration dates, and related identifiers such as ACN or ARBN where applicable.

For example, a record might show: ABN 51 824 753 556, status Active, entity type "Australian Private Company", GST registered from 1 July 2000.

ABN Signal does not access private, restricted, or non-public datasets.

What the site does with this data

What ABN Signal builds from this data:

  • Weekly snapshots. The site stores weekly snapshots of the full dataset and compares them over time. When a field changes between snapshots, the site flags it as a detected change.
  • Guides and glossary. Snapshot data supports the guides and glossary definitions that explain what each field means and how to interpret status values.
  • The dataset updates weekly, which sets the pace for how often the site can detect and surface changes.

As record-level pages and change feeds are introduced, this same data will support individual ABN lookups and detailed change reporting.

What this data does not include

The public record dataset has clear boundaries:

  • Full business profiles, financial data, and operational details sit outside the dataset.
  • Private contact information — phone numbers, email addresses — is not part of the public record.
  • The data reflects periodic snapshots taken at weekly intervals, not a real-time feed.
  • The dataset serves as a reference layer — regulatory determinations require the official registry.

ABN Signal is built on publicly available government data and operates as an independent data-intelligence product.

Provenance commitment

The site is committed to clear source disclosure. If the data source changes, expands, or narrows in scope, this page will be updated.
